Golf Still Great in Scottsdale

If the state of golf in your part of the world is below par you probably can relate to the state of golf here in Scottsdale, Arizona.

As a visiting golfer you would never know that golf here is not what it once was.  Scottsdale is still a top destination for golf enthusiasts. The end of an era always leaves signs of a new era approaching and golf, although a game, is no different. Change is hard of everyone, especially when it involves the loss of a job or a cut in pay.

The Golf Industry and the game of golf itself in Arizona is handicapped by the overall lousy condition of our economy but is adapting and changing.  While the number of  golf rounds are down, golf course maintenance staffs cut to the bone, many golf courses in bankruptcy, golf course management companies laying off workers.  It's hardly recognizable to the salad days that I experienced during my tenure as a golf packager in the lucrative years between 1995 and 2001.

Just how bad has it gotten? Private courses are turning to the public to help underwrite their operations, course owners are experiencing serious financial difficulties and fire sales of golf courses are in the works. Scottsdale golf vacation providers have shut their doors due to lack of business, leaving many without jobs.

I am referring to the latest debacle where Troon Golf Vacations & Hospitality Tee Times, one of the largest and most respected golf vacation companies in Scottsdale, ceased doing business as of September 23, 2009.

A New Era for Golf in Scottsdale is Born

But all is not lost and as of this update May 4, 2010 things are starting to turn around. Golf courses and hotels are making it more affordable to stay and play in Scottsdale, loads of specials can be found, the traveling golfer has options here, it's still the best place in the world to be from January to April, golf in the desert still rocks and the great shakeout has left the strong to survive and prosper in the new era of golf in Scottsdale.  Contact Scottsdale Golf & Lodging or Phoenix/Scottsdale Golf Vacations They are streamlined operations, owned by people tuned in to the Arizona golf scene, workaholics in their field, golfers themselves, Scottsdale residents and survivors.
