Scottsdale Landmark Has Best Burgers

When I first arrived in Scottsdale way back in 1986 the property that this Scottsdale landmark is located on was being used as a staging area for the movie company and crew that were filming the movie Raising Arizona, starring Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter. A hilarious romp in the desert with Randall Tex Cobb and John Goodman in supporting roles. Greasewood Flat is a bar that's housed in a 120 year-old bunkhouse and a great place to have a burger, hang out under the stars and listen to some great music.

I was delivering a golf cart to the Rio Verde Golf Club for the Phoenix Yamaha dealer and the crew thought I was delivering it to the movie set to be used as a prop. As I attempted to detour by the movie colony I was directed to a parking spot and told to "wait here for the director!" I sat there thinking somebody is going to be upset when they find out this golf cart ain't their golf cart. Right when I was about to make my escape who should stroll up, Mr. Joel Cohen himself! (later on I found out he was THE director) He says, "hey, that cart looks brand new, we were supposed to get a beat up one, I'm not paying a penny more for it!" No sir, Mr. Cohen says I, and I calmly launch into my explanation of this foul-up.

greasewoodflat_3Well, I got it straightened out pretty quick thanks to the help of Nicolas Cage (who I had never heard of). Mr. Cohen told me to get out and stretch my legs, look around a bit. It was Nic who told me that if I didn't get back to my truck that my cart would never be seen again. I thanked him and beat a hasty retreat!

Greasewood Flat hasn't changed a bit, still the best burger in town! (God rest your soul, Doc.)
