Wildflower Bread Company
January 22, 2008
My wife and I took her Mom & Dad, her sister and husband out to breakfast last Saturday to Wildflower Bread Co. We usually go to the Five & Diner near their house but this time we wanted something different. As it was close to Westworld where the Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction was being held and it was a Saturday morning at 9:30, it had all the ingredients of being packed. I just knew we would have a problem getting a table without a long wait.
I needn't have worried, it was busy but we found a table for six right away. It was my mother-in-law that suggested we come here, she wanted to see if they could live up to their claim of having an atmosphere that is warm, comfortable, fresh and contemporary. Having been told by a friend that each Wildflower location is created to reflect their neighborhood she wanted to see for herself if the color schemes and artwork were as good as she had been told. She was not disappointed, this Wildflower Bread Company location in Scottsdale at the Sonora Village Shopping Center just off Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd and the 101, had the most beautiful blown glass flowers hanging from the ceiling.
But what we really came for was the fresh bread and the Frittata's! Mom had heard that these breakfast omelets were just wonderful and Wildflower lived up to it's mission to provide fresh food, and wow, the bread of the month free samples were very tasty, with or without butter. (Dad had to buy a loaf which later made the best tuna salad sandwiches ever). The pancakes served at the next table almost made me change my order, they looked so good. The smell of fresh baked bread in there is enough to make you swoon and don't even glance at the pastries and desserts unless you are also on vacation from your diet!
This restaurant struck me as very clean (restrooms tell all, don't they?), the employees were fast and friendly and the overall experience was very nice. Four of us had the Honey Cured Ham & Brie Frittata, which is like an omelet but in addition to the main ingredients (ham and brie) it had sauteed apples with sage and leeks and came with home-fries and buttered toast, all for only $5.99! I was a bit skeptical about apples in my omelet but it really tasted great and it was more than enough food! Our other guests enjoyed the Roasted Tomato Feta & Egg Sandwich on fresh Ciabatta rolls and judging by the eye-rolling and moaning, I think they liked them. Overall, we awarded them the ultimate compliment, walking out of the restaurant we reached a consensus that we would all be back. I don't think any restaurant could ask for more.
If you havent been to a Wildflower Bread Co. location you will find their service-style to be unique. It works by combining quick service and fresh food served in a place you will find warm and comfortable. Here are some tips for your first visit:
1. Place your order with a friendly face at the counter.
2. Grab your drink, (great coffee here) take your sign to a table, sit back and admire the artwork and decor while we prepare your order.
3. We'll bring everything you need, napkins, silverware and food, just relax and enjoy your coffee. (refills are free)
4. You do not clean up, we do it for you.
5. If you place a to-go order, they will call you by your first name.
