Golfers, non-golfers and families that I arrange Scottsdale vacations for almost always ask me where they can find really good, authentic, Mexican food. I don't know if its the influence of popular TV shows or cooking magazines but it seems more and more consumers are embracing the tastes found in authentic ethnic food. When I travel to new places one of the things I look forward to is sampling the local cuisine and more often than not I come away with a new taste sensation. It's the same with people coming from the mid-west or east coast, Scottsdale and Southwestern cuisine are at the top of their to-do lists.

This Is Not Your Local Taco Stand

Cantina Laredo, located in the Scottsdale Promenade at Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd and Scottsdale Rd in North Scottsdale, was created from the concept that consumers want more authentic and creative flavors. There are plenty of places in Scottsdale to get a combo plate with beans and rice but the only place I know where you can get fresh guacamole made tableside is Cantina Laredo. They offer a menu that evokes the sophisticated gourmet tastes of Mexico City, including such succulent dishes as: Cameron Poblana Asada, Enchiladas Veracruz and one of my all-time favorites – Mexico City Chile Relleno. Mmmm, yummy!

My wife and I always look forward to our visits to Cantina Laredo and always look for coupons in the mail that offer specials. I can't even begin to tell you how good that tableside guacamole is and we usually end up splitting the Monterey Chicken because the portions are generous. Don't be afraid to try something you have never had before, the menu is unique and also features grilled fish, chicken and steaks complimented by signature sauces such as chipotle-wine with portobello mushrooms or sautéed artichoke hearts and roasted red bell peppers. I get hungry just thinking about it.

The atmosphere is friendly and casual, the margaritas are fantastic and the place is so expansive you almost never have to wait for a table. They have a great bar with a generous pour and the prices are very reasonable – even for Scottsdale! For a taste of authentic Mexican food I recommend it highly.
