How To Protect Your Scottsdale Reservation
October 31, 2007Everyone in the hotel biz, willing to discuss development plans for Scottsdale - whether it's; Extended Stay, Boutique, Loft, Corporate or Leisure oriented, Limited Service, Full Service, Resort or Luxury brand, all seem to believe in their tiny little corporate hearts that their concept or management style will succeed where others have failed. Even though they manage their hotel(s) from a cold little cube in places like Wisconsin or New York they will be the ones to succeed in their chosen "niche." They claim to value local talent but then don't follow their advice. After all, hotel sales people here are more common than cactus and if they can't perform under the lash someone else can. The person you speak with at the hotel level today that makes you such a good deal on a vacation package may be gone tomorrow, and along with them, your deal. Get a name and write it down.
You can read more about the downtrodden workers in the Hospitality Industry in later posts but don't feel sorry for them, they chose this kind of work, love the business and manage to get by. I just feel sorry for the new kids coming in, the ones that choose it for a career for all the good reasons, then become disillusioned by the greed and the politics and how hotel management company's could care less about the people that give their all to them. It's all about the bottom line now and how pennies can be cut to make their investors more money. This only results in less service to the customer and more problems when there are not enough staff to do the job due to cut-backs. Just ask your typical Home Depot customer.
In Scottsdale, just as in the real estate market, the buyer has the advantage - at least for now. If you plan on buying property in Scottsdale now is the time. If you are planning on coming here for a golf vacation that means there are lots of choices. Ask nicely and you shall receive. Just don't blame that front desk guy or gal too much if he or she can't get off the phone to check you in or is resolving an issue with a guest on hold, or trying to transfer that call to room 109. While at the same time processing a purchase for a Coke or candy bar from the hotel "store" or dealing with someone needing extra towels for the pool or yada, yada, yada.
