What Scottsdale Golfers Want To Know
October 31, 2007Let's get to the meat of today's golf packager - golfers want to know, is there an "extra" charge for using the services of a packager? Can they get guaranteed tee times further in advance than the public? Are there discounts for golf and/or lodging or is everything priced at "rack" rate? These are only a few of the legitimate questions that a good golf packager is only happy to answer. I hope to give you answers here that will favor the use of wholesalers and provide the evidence to back it up. But one of the more obvious roles of the wholesaler is to save you time. Let them call all over town looking for availability during high demand dates, after all, one of the great advantages of a wholesaler is that you have choices. A good one will have a mix of hotels, resorts, vacation rental condo's, private homes, etc. and the best ones will even have an inventory of hotel rooms that they have access to. A single entity like a hotel or resort will only represent their property and it may turn out to be against hotel policy to refer you to another property - unless they own that one too!
This whole concept of golf packaging works only in resort destinations like Scottsdale where demand for tee times and lodging is off the charts, usually during the winter months, where you can experience world-class golf in perfect weather. The attitude of consumers toward golf packagers has improved tremendously over the last decade to the point where 8 out of 10 golf groups with four or more players will use a golf package provider. These changes are a result of owners/managers who saw the writing on the wall and dramatically improved their levels of service (technology has helped immensely with this). The bad guys have been chased away (for the most part) and relationships between the packager and the lodging and golf staffs has grown stronger. It took a while but our hotels and courses now know who the players are - those that provide a sustained and significant number of tee time bookings and hotel rooms to their hotel and golf course suppliers, pay their bills and most importantly have established an excellent reputation by implementing honest and ethical business practices. We've come a long way baby!
With the resources on the Internet available out there in Cyberland about vacation packages to Arizona and Scottsdale it can be nothing short of mind-boggling when trying to pin-down the right one. One off hotels, resorts and vacation rentals are selling their own course or accommodations and pretty pictures don't lie, right? A packager can provide you with many options and will offer opinions about certain property's or courses, based on what you tell them you are looking for. The wholesaler then determines the package that fits you, not the other way around.
