What Golf Means To Scottsdale
October 30, 2007If you are a golfer that has been to Scottsdale before or are a regular visitor you already know that, here in Scottsdale, golf is more a way of life than just a great place to play. Scottsdale rolls out the red carpet to golfers from around the world and their business is welcomed by many non-golf related businesses as well as hotels, golf courses and restaurants. But it is also about family & friends who come to visit, PGA Professionals, players of all ages and abilities, guys and gals from Chicago, New York, Michigan, Illinois, Oregon and many other states. Arizona Cardinal football is a big draw, RV'ers are everywhere and of course, our winter weather is spectacular.
I won't bore you with statistics about visitor spending and the tremendous impact that golf has on the economy here, (everyone knows that!) and that's just counting our winter visitors. Nor will I mention any of the hundreds of accolades awarded to our great courses in features appearing regularly within the pages of national golf publications like; Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and my personal favorite, GolfWeek. Golf in Scottsdale occupies a huge role in the infrastructure so much that it is recognized more for it's impact in tourism dollars than just a game. Just like Myrtle Beach, the entire City of Scottsdale opens it's doors widely to the golfer, restaurants, retail stores and hotels all compete for their business. What's really fun is being able to see guys like; Phil Mickelson, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Jack Nicklaus, Gary McCord, Peter Kostis, Tom Wieskoph, Aaron Baddely, Tom Lehman and others out shopping with the family, or having a quiet dinner in one of our award winning restaurants. Just like regular folk! The PGA Tour has a huge following here with the "most attended" PGA Tour Event, The FBR Open, hosted by the TPC of Scottsdale. We call it the "Greatest Show On Grass" and it's worth the price of admission even if you don't follow the "Those Guys Are Good" crowd.
