How Golf Packages Are Priced In Scottsdale

The Discount Game
Most Scottsdale golf packagers will price their packages at a point somewhere between a percentage of profit added to their "net" and what the market will bear. In the end, the package can be priced at a percentage under "rack" rate, or offered at the "published" rate just by adding the components together. If the customer has done their homework they will know what others are charging and will be able to make comparisons. However, some people get caught up in this game where they call Package Co. A. to get a quote, with a quote in-hand from Package Co. B. Then they try to get Packager A to beat that price. Competition is good for the consumer, just make sure that you are comparing apples to apples. Too many times a customer will want the same rate but with better courses or upgraded accommodations and that's not a fair comparison.
Some Scottsdale packagers feel that they should include tax with their packages so there are no surprises, 12% for bed tax and 8% for golf tax can add up in Scottsdale, especially with golf groups. Some don't even talk about it at all and get called on it when it comes across their irate customer's credit card statement with a price substantially higher than originally quoted. Their reaction is; it's not money for me it's TAX. Be sure to ask if the prices quoted include tax. The words "package" and "discount" are not synonymous, you have to ask for a better rate, never assume that because it is offered as a package that the packager has discounted any of it's components.
